Pilates is for EVERYONE! Pilates exercises strengthen your core muscles of the body including the abdominal, back, and postural muscles. You will increase your balance, improve your posture, tone your muscles, and enhance your flexibility and mobility. Pilates can be used to help decrease chronic pain or stress, improve scoliosis, relieve excess tension, improve tech neck, rehab injuries post-physical therapy, or as a cross-training program for dancers and athletes. Pilates is exercise for a lifetime. Many of Susan’s students say how much better they feel after class because Pilates even helps to helps improve your mood!
The SmartSpine© Method uses heat to help students feel their Pilates movements and can include gentle release work performed by Susan before the workout begins. The release work is designed to help our fascia soften so our strengthening work is more effective.
Marie-José Blom, Susan’s mentor and inventor of SmartSpine©, describes the movement experience as a working IN before working OUT. Scientific studies have shown that applying heat WHILE you move is very effective to increase muscle length and mobility. Susan's "work-ins" are something students say feel unlike any else they have tried and it really helps them be more in control of their own bodies in and out of the Pilates studio.
Roll Model Method© is a form of self massage work developed by Jill Miller of Tune Up Fitness©. This work uses sepcifically sized balls that students use to help release tight muscles and tissues. Similar to SmartSpine, this technique is wonderful to use before your Pilates workouts to help move more freely and efffectively. This technique has been wonderful for Susan’s students because they can take the balls with them on trips or simply at home to keep up releasing chronically tight areas in their body.
